HISTORY OF ASSL


Anatomy has been a cornerstone in medical education regardless of nation or medical school or system of teaching. Although the importance of teaching anatomy to both undergraduate and postgraduate students remains undisputed, there are number of debatable areas where the solutions has to be sought.

The Anatomical Society (ASSL), founded in 2011, with the aims of promoting, developing and supporting advance research and education in all aspects of Human Anatomy. ASSL achieves these aims by organizing scientific meetings; publishing the Journal of Anatomy and the News Letter. The Society conducts its operations based on Articles of Association and Regulations. It is governed by an elected Council of trustees that includes the President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Chairs of Standing Committees.

The society have provided input to the undergraduate curricula currently in practice in different Universities of Sri Lanka. The ASSL aims to develop the next generation of anatomists by supporting to improve their knowledge. Further the ASSL supports learning and training of any person who is interested in Human Anatomy.
